Habitat for Humanity is asking the community to join together to build hope, one nail at a time. The 22nd anniversary Blitz Build started this week, and it will continue until the 16th of this month with a double home dedication event. There is still time to volunteer; spots are still available.
Habitat for Humanity-Spokane started its 22nd Blitz Build event today, a two-week initiative dedicated to constructing affordable homes in Spokane County. It kicked off today, June 5th, at the Hope Meadows development in Deer Park. The organization calls for more volunteers to join in and fill shifts throughout the event.
The Blitz Build event is a unique and highly anticipated occasion in Spokane County. Each year, hundreds of supporters from the community, including volunteers, sponsorship groups, businesses, and community leaders, come together to swing hammers and raise walls. Creating safe, healthy, and affordable homes and communities. It serves as a platform to raise awareness of the community’s affordable housing crisis while providing an accelerated construction effort. Habitat for Humanity-Spokane opens the job site to accommodate 30 volunteers per shift this year, enabling the construction team to build two homes in Deer Park quickly.
In celebration of the 22nd Blitz Build, Habitat-Spokane is appealing for volunteers to sign up and help raise the walls of two more affordable homes at the Hope Meadows development in Deer Park. Register online at Habitat-spokane.org/blitzbuild.

- View the Blitz Build Calendar to check the availability of the preferred day and time slot.
- Pay the $50 registration fee, which covers the t-shirt, lunch, and special programming.
- Upon payment, you will be redirected to the online volunteer portal.
- Create a Volunteer Hub account if you don’t already have one.
- Complete the online waiver.
- Select your volunteer shift.

Free volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year, but registration is required for the special build event.
Dedication Ceremony
The Blitz Build will conclude with a special highlight: a double home dedication ceremony. The event will celebrate the achievement of two local single mothers, Jessica and Michelle, who have completed the program. All individuals are invited to join in this celebration of homeownership for these hardworking moms. The ceremony and BBQ following will take place on Friday, June 16th, 2023, at 12pm at Hope Meadows in Deer Park. Habitat for Humanity
Spokane County currently needs more affordable housing options for moderate-income families. Habitat for Humanity-Spokane’s Homeownership Program has provided a viable solution over the past 36 years. The organization plans to complete 25 homes by the end of the year. It is important to note that Habitat homes are not given away for free. Families and individuals who partner with Habitat purchase their homes after completing the program and pay an affordable mortgage, ensuring that no more than 30% of their income is allocated towards housing costs. In addition, by investing 250 hours of their time throughout the process, these families create better outcomes for themselves through the stability that owning a home offers.
Volunteers contribute directly to constructing affordable homes for families in Habitat-Spokane’s Homeownership Program by participating in this fundraising build event. It is an opportunity to make a tangible difference in addressing the pressing issue of affordable housing in the community.
